Student Life at Ursuline
Summer Camp
Register soon for Summer Camp
Summer at Ursuline includes new and expanded offerings, like Discovery Cove for children 2.5 - 5 years (Montessori) and Wander & Wonder (with weekly field trips to various locations) for children in K - Rising 5th Grade. In addition, we offer Cooking at UA, Culinary Camp, UA Art Studio, Musical Theater, Fashion, Chess, Basketball Camp hosted by Coach John Noonan and Volleyball Camp hosted by Coach Lauren DiSabatino, Field Hockey Camp, and more.

Co-ed, Age 2.5 – 5 Years
June 15 - August 14
A week at Discovery Cove is full of adventure, exploration, and creativity. Children will enjoy building skills in the arts, sciences, music and movement, culinary arts, and socially/emotionally appropriate group games, all while building new friendships and self-confidence.
Week 1: June 15-19 - Backyard Biologists (Zoology Focus)
During Week 1, the curriculum utilizes precision tools such as magnifying glasses and the collaborative assembly of nature tables to facilitate systematic observation. By examining local specimens—including insects and foliage—campers move beyond passive looking to intentional scientific scrutiny. Analyzing animal routines, vocalizations, and fundamental survival needs provides a primary framework for zoological inquiry, assisting campers in recognizing the ecological interconnectedness of their immediate surroundings.
Week 2: June 22-26 - Little Gardeners (Botany Focus)
The second week shifts the focus to Botany, integrating academic concepts like root system morphology and taxonomic classification with practical environmental stewardship. Students engage with didactic botanical materials through weeding, watering, and seed dispersal. Hands-on flower arranging, utilizing specialized shears and vases, serves as a primary vehicle for botanical education, requiring campers to exercise manual dexterity and aesthetic judgment while internalizing lessons on the reproductive cycles of seeds and fruits.
Week 3: July 6-10 - Ocean Explorers (Marine Week)
Marine Week utilizes marine-themed sensory bins—composed of blue-tinted water, sand, and animal figurines—as sophisticated tools for visual and tactile discrimination. Sorting seashells by morphology and size serves as a critical precursor to later taxonomic studies, as campers learn to distinguish subtle physical attributes. The use of natural materials reinforces marine science concepts through kinesthetic engagement, laying the psychological groundwork for complex scientific categorization.
Week 4: July 13-17 - Junior Chefs (Practical Life Week)
The curriculum transitions into a formal "Grace and Courtesy" framework during Week 4. Culinary tasks, including spreading butter or jam with precision, slicing strawberries and apples, squeezing orange juice, and baking bread, function as the primary mechanism for developing fine motor skills and student autonomy. These activities are essential Exercises in Practical Life (EPL); they allow the camper to master a sequence of movements, fostering a sense of order and self-reliance within the kitchen environment.
Week 5: july 20-24 - Bug Camp (Insects & Life Cycles)
Week 5 focuses on the identification of insect anatomy and specialized adaptations. The instructional goal is to synthesize identification skills with an understanding of ecological roles. Through the construction of "bug hotels" and participation in lifecycle-themed sensory play, campers apply zoological concepts to real-world ecological functions, observing how diverse species occupy specific niches within an ecosystem.
Week 6: july 27-31 - Transportation & Motion Week
This week shifts the focus from biological systems to the classification of man-made objects and gross motor development. Campers categorize vehicles by their medium (land, air, water) and engage in physical applications such as washing bikes. An integral art component—painting with toy car wheels—allows campers to visualize physics; the resulting patterns demonstrate how the rotation of a wheel translates motion into a physical record. This period balances academic classification with activities like balancing and marching, which promote bilateral coordination and cooperative group dynamics.
Week 7: august 3-7 - Water Works (Science Week)
During Science Week, campers engage in "sink or float" experiments and water transfer tasks. These activities are specifically designed to build auditory discrimination; by attending to the varying sounds of water being poured at different volumes and velocities, campers refine their sensory perception. Furthermore, Exercises in Practical Life, such as washing windows and tables, are integrated to establish a psychological state of order and care for the environment—the necessary internal condition for formal scientific inquiry.
Week 8: august 10-14 - Dino Dig & Fossils (Prehistoric Week)
The season concludes with Prehistoric Week, where activities like sandbox excavation and the creation of salt dough bones refine eye-hand coordination and spatial awareness. The task of sorting dinosaur figures by various attributes requires campers to utilize the knowledge gained throughout the season to execute logical sequencing. These activities represent the final mastery of complex, multi-step tasks within the 2026 curriculum.
