Bio
At the Ursuline 2022 Reunion Weekend, it was our privilege to present the Angela Boyle '53 Award for Service to Janis Julian '72. For Janis, the life of started as a child when she and her neighborhood friends would host summer carnivals in her parents’ front yard. They donated the proceeds to the Emily P. Bissell Hospital for Children and their volunteer efforts were spotlighted in the Wilmington News Journal.
During her years at Ursuline Academy, Janis and her classmates often volunteered at the Tilton Terrace Home for the elderly, mentored underserved students at Cool Springs Elementary School, and lent a hand to the Ursuline moms when the annual Fashion Show hit the stage.
Through the years, Janis has carved out time to volunteer at St. Francis Hospital, the Fresh Start Scholarship Fund, the Board of Marydale Retirement Community, the Mary Campbell Center, and the Ministry of Caring. She was a member of the Hockessin-Greenville Rotary, and was a Eucharistic Minister and Finance Council member at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Hockessin.
Janis believes in the power of education, which is evident from her service as a Board Member at Ursuline Academy and at Salesianum School. In 2010, Janis received an Outstanding Leadership Award from Junior Achievement, where she worked with students to create and launch businesses, taught financial literacy in the public schools and was an active participant in “Teach Children to Save Day,” one of her favorite programs.
Janis has been a mentor in the public schools for several years, and currently mentors two fourth grade students. She is an inspiration to her children (all alums of Ursuline), her classmates, and her community. Congratulations, Janis Julian, Class of 1972 for this well-deserved award!
